Battle of the Bands can be found here. Today's featured river is Caney Fork and keep drifting down the page and you'll get there...
Caney Fork
The name of the Caney Fork River in Tennessee probably doesn't mean much to a good many folks unless you've driven I-40 between Knoxville and Nashville. I've done that trip many times going both ways crossing back and forth over the Caney Fork River. This scenic river through the Cumberland Plateau runs for 143 miles before emptying into the mighty Cumberland River. The Caney Fork River is always a sight that I like to see. The view is pleasing to look at and it's close to my old home in East Tennessee.

Now that I've lived in California for the past 30 years I'm more apt to encounter the Colorado River that runs 1450 miles through Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California. This is as opposed to the very different Colorado River that runs for 862 miles through Texas. Both are very significant rivers, but distinct rivers that share a name.
I stay in Singapore and great efforts have been made to retain as much greenery as possible. There is a canal that runs behind my apartment with a parkway connector along it and watching the sunrise there is mesmerising.
ReplyDeleteI have seen breathtaking scenes from the rivers in the US and surrounding areas on some of the shows on Netflix and they are breathtakingly beautiful. This reminds me of Huckleberry Finn :)
Jayashree, I'm all for retaining greenery in urban areas. Yes, some of the U.S. rivers are very lovely.

ReplyDeleteI remember the Colorado River Lee whilst in America.
ReplyDeleteLoved the photo of you and wife.
I am not keen on where I live, I just adored living in Spain for a while. But cannot look back.
I did join the list for rhe challenge but fill it in wrong so did it again around no. 237 I think.
Yvonne.
Yvonne, both Colorado Rivers cover a lot of ground so one is likely to encounter one or the other when traveling across the U.S.
DeleteSometimes we are just where we are and it's difficult to do much about it.

Caney Fork looks like a pretty river.
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with the place I'm living, I used to travel a lot, and being here is another step in the journey! As long as I'm with my love, I can be anywhere!
Quilting Patchwork & Appliqué
Frederique, there are so many nice views of the Caney Fork as one drives between Knoxville and Nashville. I'm sure there are even prettier views where the river passes through the state parks.

The photo of Caney Fork is gorgeous! The beauty of that area is quite different from what I'm used to, but so far, I've always loved my home state of Arizona.
ReplyDeleteDiedre, Arizona has a lot of beauty but it's so much different than what one finds back east. The drive through Oak Creek Canyon between Flagstaff and Sedona reminds me of some of the Tennessee scenes--in places.

Oh my goodness! I've never realised there are two Colorado Rivers!

Jazz, I was kind of surprised that there were two Colorado Rivers until I became aware of the one in Texas extending as far as Austin. I had thought both were the same when I'd crossed that river in West Texas and I never paid attention to the name of the river in Austin until I started writing this post.

It looks very relaxing. I guess some rivers are, others not so much!
ReplyDeleteDo I live where I really want to live? I think so. I moved from CA to Oregon 10 years ago. I liked the SF area, but too expensive once my husband died. The Rogue Valley is lovely, with nearly the same climate (not rainy Oregon). I think I might love the coast too. Dilemmas? Regarding living here? The homeless problem is getting really serious. The tents everywhere aren't so bad, but why they have to throw the trash everywhere is the question. Personal dilemma? I have a new 6 month old puppy who isn't getting along with the cats yet! That's a big stress! I have never gone down a river. They do have it here on the Rogue River, but I think I'm too old for it now.
Lisa, it's sad about the homeless situation. We have that here in L.A. as well, but they've cleaned it up for the most part in the area where I live.

ReplyDeleteI loved roaming through all the gardens where I grew up but alas there were no rivers. My cousins had a railway track which ran through their property which vincent flattened coins on as they flew through.
DeleteSpacerGuy, I flattened a few coins on the tracks that ran through a place where I used to work. I never had any rivers within walking distance of my house. My mother was probably happy about that.

I've lived in a bunch of places in my more "nomadic" days. Yes, I am much where I prefer to be.
ReplyDeleteJ, good to be happy where you are. California has a lot of good points. Now if I could only change the state and local government and get rid of a bunch of the wacky folks that live here.

That's a pretty neat river. Very relaxing.
ReplyDeleteJamie, the Caney Fork looks like an ideal river to float. I've seen a lot of floaters as I've passed by on the highway.

I think we all have a little confusion in our lives at times, don't we? Lovely picture of you and your wife.
ReplyDeleteJanet’s Smiles
Janet, confusion is sometimes unavoidable. We just have to learn to cope with it.

Love the picture of you guys! I think I've seen the Cuyahoga...
ReplyDeleteCW, you're fairly close to the Cuyahoga. If you've been to Cleveland then you've undoubtedly encountered this river in some way.
DeleteLee
I suppose I'm also confused...as my life has taken my from the Deleware River in the Northeast to the Colorado River in Austin(I know the area where your wonderful picture was taken I believe) and then, like you, I have ended up in the beautiful state of California(the very northern part). Funny how life bends like a river, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteGang, Yes, life is like a river. Seems like I've heard that analogy before stated in that very way.

It took me a while to warm up to living in Atlanta, but now I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I see the news about Chicago and Illinois and know that if I hadn't moved in 1987, I'd have moved shortly thereafter.
ReplyDeleteJohn H, Chicago is not a place I'd want to be. Parts of Indiana might be okay.

I'm not sure I have an it place to live, I am not going to complain I live in a place many consider paradise. Plenty of dilemmas. Last river I went down was of the Blackwater River in Florida, I have been down the New River in West Virginia a few times.
ReplyDeleteMike, the New River is beautiful.

I'm most decidedly not in a place I came to by choice or wanted to be stuck in nearly this long. If lockdown ever ends and I'm able to have my own home again, I'm hightailing it to Pittsburgh. I'd also love to live in Amherst, Massachusetts again, or nearby Northampton.
ReplyDeletePittsburgh might be interesting. I'm not sure that I'd want to deal with very bad winters.

My hubby would love to be on that river kayaking. It looks like such a lovely lazy river. Your mind went everywhere and for good reason...so many places to see and talk about. To be honest, I miss the country and I could easily see myself living in Austria or southern Germany...near the Alps. That being said, You never know what you have when you have it so I am also quite happy where I am...warts and all. I have been on the Danube which was really quite lovely.
ReplyDeleteBirgit, I meandered like a river I guess. But it's easy with an expansive topic like rivers.

I love the Cany creek area. Very scenic .
ReplyDeleteI have passed this area many times going to Smyrna TN., where my daughter lives.
ReplyDeleteMarvin, it's close to home. Hope I see it at least once more before I leave this Earth.

Lee,
ReplyDeleteWe've been to Nashville several times over the years. Usually, I fall asleep when we make that trip going either way but I'm sure at some point I noticed the Caney Fork River. Oh yes, I'm living where I want to. Sometimes I think it would interesting to try to live somewhere else but there really isn't too many places that come to mind and then I think about our children who live here. It's hard to get with them now, so moving far away would make it even harder. I think I'd rather stay here and just travel to places I'd like to live. :)
Cecil Turtle Looney Tunes A-Z Art Sketch
Cathy, between Knoxville and Nashville on I-40 one crosses back and forth over the Caney River that's it's hard not to miss it. And it's so scenic to look at. I love seeing that river.
DeleteI live far from my kids now, but my wife's family is here in California. I'm making my sacrifice in hopes that we can at least keep visiting my kids each year. It's a dilemma for me.
Lee
I’m pretty happy where I live right now near the ocean and a river. I just need to take more advantage of them...one of life’s dilemmas, managing competing priorities and interests.
ReplyDeleteI’m working backwards through your rivers from Z to A and enjoying learning about new places.

Pauleen, seems like there is never enough time for everything we want or should do. The COVID inconveniences haven't been helping me much.
