Music molds me. It has molded me into who I am throughout my life and continues to shape and form me now. Music is the potter's hands, my mind is the clay...
Music has guided me and music follows me. Music is all around me and has been since my earliest memories. Part of my love of music keeps me doing a bi-monthly blogging event. That's what I'll be doing in this post for the letter "M"...
Battle of the Bands
Battle of the Bands is the blogging event started by Far Away Series and now hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands. This event happens each month on the 15th and on some there is also a Battle on the 1st of the month. My blog is one of those with a second Battle excepting over these summer months. The premise is simple: Listen to the songs presented below and then in the comments vote for your favorite and tell us why you liked it. Then visit the links listed near the bottom of this post for more Battle action.
It's West Coast Vs East Coast! Which song do you prefer?
Crowfoot - California Rock'n'Roll
East? West? Which song do you like best? It's time for a Battle of the Bands! You're supposed to vote on one of these songs. Which one do you prefer? Battles are no fun without you the reader participating. Hopefully you have an opinion of some kind. You don't have to know about music to have an opinion since it all comes down to your own personal taste.
Please vote on your favorite by letting us know your choice in the comment section and tell us why you prefer the version you chose. Then after you've finished here, please visit the other blogs listed below who may or may not be participating this time around. And if you've put up your own BOTB contest let us know that as well so we can vote on yours. I don't know if anyone else will be doing a Battle this time around, but you can still check out these sites.
Here are some other places where you might find BOTB posts:

'Curious as a Cathy'
Sound of One Hand Typing
Jingle, Jangle, Jungle
Both states are awful, but Ace Frehley gets it hands down.
ReplyDeleteAlex, both states have a lot to offer, but there is some craziness that could be done with.
DeleteVoting starts off with Ace Frehley.

I prefer the sound of Crowfoot the best, so West Coast gets my vote! :)
ReplyDeleteCathy, thank you for your vote!
DeleteCrowfoot.

From my Cousin Tom on Facebook comes a vote for...
ReplyDeleteCrowfoot
Lee
I like Ace better so they get my vote. Music is part of one's soul whatever the music is.
ReplyDeleteBirgit, if I'm not hearing music around me then I make it in my head.
DeleteAce Frehley

VOTE = CROWFOOT
ReplyDeleteSomehow I just like the sound of Crowfoot better; but I have to say I liked both songs. Maybe the fact that I am a native Californian tweaked my decisionmaker, though... ~Ed.
Ed, I think they are both pretty good songs and on par with each other.
DeleteCrowfoot

I'll go with the majority and choose Crowfoot as well. I'm sure Ace Frehley has his fans, but I can't say that I'm one of them.
ReplyDeleteJohn, I wasn't a huge fan of Kiss, but they were all pretty good musicians. I guess.
DeleteA vote for Crowfoot.

ReplyDeleteHow convenient that the letter "M" (for music) coincided with a BOTB day.
'New York Groove' I was familiar with, as it got some radio airplay in the L.A. area way back in that long time ago. The Crowfoot song I don't recall having heard before but... I liked it pretty well. A little short, but fairly catchy.
I listened to both songs twice, just to ensure that I wasn't allowing familiarity to color my opinion. Nevertheless, I'm voting for 'NEW YORK GROOVE'. That song really does have a groove.
Fun Fact: If the Crowfoot song had instead been [Link> 'California' by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, I'd have voted for that over Ace Frehley's song in a heartbeat. Whew! I have always loved, Loved, LOVED that song!

STMcC, I've never heard that Mann song before. I like it. I was trying to keep the songs short for A to Z sake and I prefer not to do separate posts. Not even thrilled about doing one post any more, but I guess I haven't been blog motivated enough of late.
DeleteFunny, but every year I'm able to have M as my letter for BOTB day.
A vote for Ace Frehley

I had never heard the Crowfoot tune before, but love it! Not that I don't love NYG, but it gets my win.
ReplyDeleteCW, yeah, Crowfoot was one of those fine groups that just didn't catch the public eye enough to be a hit. I think they had two albums.
DeleteCrowfoot

Hi Lee -
ReplyDeleteSorry I am late! I am traveling and have not been able to get to anything for a couple of days.
I had not heard either of these songs before. I knew who Ace was, but had not listened to any solo stuff from him. And Crowfoot was totally unknown, so I looked 'em up on their wiki page. I still don't know anything about them!
I am going to vote for Ace. I think the voice is a bit weak, but it does have some catchy bits with the way the song is put together.
Sixgun McItchyfinger
6-gun, not late, just covered up with accumulating A to Z posts.
DeleteCrowfoot's guitarist was the one who did the solos on Norman Greenbaum's "spirit in the sky" hit song. Russell deSheill or something like that was his name I think.
A vote for Ace Frehlely.
