This Is Me--2024 A to Z Theme

My A to Z Themes in the past have covered a range of topics and for 2025 the theme is a random assemblage of things that are on my mind--or that just pop into my mind. Whatever! Let's just say I'll be "Tossing It Out" for your entertainment or however it is you perceive these things.

The Truth about my Most Recent Battle of the Bands ( #BOTB Results )

I always hate it when I lose an hour, but seem to think little when I throw away hours upon hours in ultimately useless pursuits...

Last week was like going through a time warp.  Come to think of it my whole life seems to be going that way.  But it seems like life has always gone that way from the beginning except when I was younger everything seemed new and for me it really was.

Sometimes I think the progress of the world is moving too fast. Would we want or expect it any other way?

Battle of the Bands Results

My most recent Battle was between young up-and-comer Dawnelle Elizabeth and rock-and-roll legend Dion.  I wasn't sure how this match would turn out, but I knew that Dion was my pick.  I've liked Dion's work in Christian music since I first came across it back in the eighties.  There's also something about the melody of Dion's song--a haunting quality that particularly appeals to me.

Dawnelle's song is a rousing upbeat tune, but I usually go for the more introspective music.  I would have thought she'd have gotten more votes, but the tally tells the story...

Final Vote Tally

Dawnelle Elizabeth           3

Dion Dimucci                  11

Next Battle on Sunday March 15th

This Battle will be another kind of religious theme.  I'll be featuring two different songs about the same historical martyr.  And the Battle will have nothing to do with St. Patrick, but this saint will be a worthy companion...

The Insecure Writer's Support Group

Join us on the first Wednesday of each month in Alex J. Cavanaugh's Insecure Writer's Support Group--a forum of writers who gather to talk about writing and the writer's life. For a complete list of participants visit Alex's Blog

The co-hosts for the March 4 posting of the IWSG are Jacqui Murray, Lisa Buie-Collard, Sarah Foster, Natalie Aguirre, and Shannon Lawrence.

March 4 question - Other than the obvious holiday traditions, have you ever included any personal or family traditions/customs in your stories?

       A Tradition is Returning!

I've got nothing in regard to this month's question, but coming soon there is what has become an annual tradition for writers who blog:  The Blogging from A to Z April Challenge!

Most of you probably know about the Challenge which involves blogging for 26 days of the month with the daily theme matching that day's letter of the alphabet.  This will be my eleventh year of doing this and many others have likewise done it for many seasons.  That's why it's become a tradition I guess.

The sign up sheet is now open at the A to Z Blog site.

The Truth Will Set You Free (#BOTB)

These days we get bombarded by so much in the name of truth that sometimes it's difficult to say what really is true.  What we often hope to be true is rarely what is true in the end...

Where'd That Come From?

This past week, just as it seemed my computer was bouncing back from its previously cantankerous behavior, my body decided to pack me a wallop.  Amid a barrage of news reporting about a Coronavirus pandemic, I was knocked out for the first three days of last week with some weird malady that had me in bed much of the time.  Now I seem to be bouncing back just in time for the March 1st edition of Battle of the Bands...

Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands is the blogging event started by Far Away Series and now hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands.   This event happens each month on the 15th and on some there is also a Battle on the 1st of the month.  My blog is one of those with a second Battle excepting over these summer months.   The premise is simple:  Listen to the songs presented below and then in the comments vote for your favorite and tell us why you liked it.  Then visit the links listed near the bottom of this post for more Battle action.

The Truth Will Set You Free

In this Battle I'll be presenting two very different songs that have the same name and the same theme.  The first comes from Dawnelle Elizabeth, an up-and-coming young Christian singer from Southern California.  The second from a rock legend who's been making music and charting hits for many decades--Dion Dimucci, or just "Dion" as most of you probably know him.

Take a listen to each and then cast your vote for the song performance that you like best...

Dawnelle Elizabeth   "The Truth Will Set You Free"  (2014)

Dion     "The Truth Will Set You Free"  (1980)

Time to Vote!

Did one of these songs set you free more than the other?  Or did you just like one better than the other?   I hope you'll play along with us.   Which song version do you prefer?   Hopefully you have an opinion of some kind.  You don't have to know about music to have an opinion since it all comes down to your own personal taste.

Please vote on your favorite by letting us know your choice in the comment section and tell us why you prefer the version you chose. Then after you've finished here, please visit the other blogs listed below who may or may not be participating this time around. And if you've put up your own BOTB contest let us know that as well so we can vote on yours.
