This Is Me--2024 A to Z Theme

My A to Z Themes in the past have covered a range of topics and for 2024 the theme is a personal retrospective that I call "I Coulda Been" which is in reference to my job and career arc over my lifetime. I'll be looking at all sorts of occupations that I have done or could have done. Maybe you've done some of these too!

It's Over ( #BOTB )

And just like that another Blogging from A to Z comes to an end.  It's over, but then not entirely so.  Still, to celebrate an end to another Challenge, let's play a thematically apt Battle of the Bands...

Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands is the blogging event started by Far Away Series and now hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands.   This event happens each month on the 15th and on some there is also a Battle on the 1st of the month.  My blog is one of those with a second Battle excepting over these summer months.   The premise is simple:  Listen to the songs presented below and then in the comments vote for your favorite and tell us why you liked it.  Then visit the links listed near the bottom of this                                                                                 post for more Battle action.

It's Over

There are several songs with the title "It's Over" and if any song seems appropriate for this Battle, a song with this title seems like a good one to use.  I've decided to use songs from two of my favorite groups from the past.  As we all know, it ain't over until it's over, but as far as this Battle is concerned "It's Over" sounds like a nice sentiment after another April Challenge.

Badfinger   "It's Over"   (1971)

This song comes from the album Straight Up which is my favorite album by Badfinger.  This song along with several others on the album was produced by Todd Rundgren.

Electric Light Orchestra   "It's Over"  (1977)

ELO had a wonderful big sound with overtones of the Beatles.  As a fan of strings and orchestras I was drawn to ELO as soon as I discovered them.   Their song "It's Over" has their signature sound that gave them so many hits on the charts--big production and lots of drama.

Time to Vote!

A to Z may be over, but voting for this Battle of the Bands has just begun.  Please join in and play along in this Battle of the Bands.  I hope you'll at least give the versions a listen to discern your favorite.   Which version do you prefer?   Hopefully you have an opinion of some kind.  You don't have to know about music to have an opinion since it all comes down to your own personal taste.

Please vote on your favorite by letting us know your choice in the comment section and tell us why you prefer the version you chose. Then after you've finished here, please visit the other blogs listed below who may or may not be participating this time around. And if you've put up your own BOTB contest let us know that as well so we can vote on yours.

Here are some other places where you might find BOTB posts:

Winner of this Battle Announced on Friday May 7th.

I'll be here on Wednesday May 5th with a post for #IWSG but the results of the Battle will show up a couple days after that.  And somewhere in those posts I'll include some Challenge Reflections.  It's all slowing down, but it ain't over until it's over...

  3. I fell down on reading your A to Z but I am planning to go back and read each one I missed. It is ELO all the way for me. I love the way it sounds and they can't be beat.

    1. Birgit, at least I kept up with posting on time. I thought I might fall behind.

  4. BOTH of these groups always sounded very Beatle-esque to me. And in fact, if memory serves, I believe Badfinger was the first band signed to The Beatles' Apple Records company.

In this match-up, I side a bit with ELO. I never really liked them much back in the day (never owned a single ELO LP), but I appreciate them a bit more now than I did in my youth.

    1. STMcC, I agree about the Beatle-esque sound of both groups and I think for good reason. When Badfinger first came out I thought that they actually might be The Beatles recording under a fake name. I believe Jeff Lynne was intentionally aiming for a Beatles type sound.

      A vote for ELO.

  8. Lee,

What a great song choice to say goodbye to another year of A2Zing in your BoTB for May! I'm surprised I do not know either song and I vaguely remember Badfinger but the song that wins me over is ELO. If for nothing else, I've always enjoyed their music. Thanks for taking time over the weekend to cast your vote in my We Have All The Time In The World BoTB Showdown, my friend. Tomorrow, my reflections post will go live! Have a restful week. You deserve it!

    2. Lee,

I'm still trying to catch my breath. In the past I haven't put a lot of importance on the Road Trip because I usually kept up with return visits but this year I will need to do just that and it's really not an all bad thing. I'll be sure to stop by tomorrow for your reflections post!

  9. I like both but my vote is for the Badfinger song. I love Boz Scaggs It's Over...one of my favorite songs ever mostly because it takes me back to college and makes me feel young. I am trying to read back some of the A-Z posts. What a great party you've hosted for many years now!

  11. I like the first one best. I was really into The Iveys / Badfinger when they were current. I do not recall this one, so you featuring it here is very cool.

    A vote for Badfinger
