Just Decorating the Tree Today...

Apocalypse? (Photo credit: mikelehen)
My previous post was one that I nearly cancelled before putting it up.  There was already plenty of talk in the media, on the blogs, and among ourselves about the Newtown tragedy.  Even though the buzz was growing about the gun control issue, I wasn't sure if this was the time to mention it on Tossing It Out.  But judging from some of the thoughtful comments I received on that post, some of my readers have something to say about the topics I brought up.

Nothing much to stir up today though.  It's getting mighty close to Christmas and I've got some busy seasonal things coming up and I'm sure a lot of you are far busier than I.  So today I'll just dilly dally as I deck the blog with a smatter of chatter so I'll at least have something onsite and no one can say I was sleeping on the job.

On my last post, Chuck from Apocalypse Now said that I "threw enough chum in the water to get a frenzy of activity".   Those controversies will not only be addressed in due time on this blog, but Chuck suggested that he might touch upon some of those questions as well on his blog.

Any Plans for the End of the World?

Apocalypse BlogFest
Speaking of Chuck, he and our esteemed A to Z Team member Shannon of The Warrior Muse are hosting a very timely blogfest coming this Friday.   You may have noticed the nifty Choose Your Own Apocalypse button at the top of my sidebar.  Click on it to find out the details of this event and then sign up on the list.  Space is filling up fast.  It may be the last blogfest that you ever do.  My entry will assuredly be controversial to some of you.  I can hardly wait to see what everyone else chooses as their favorite doomsday.

Arthur Brill Is Putting His End On Ice

Yeah, literally.   A to Z'er Arthur Brill from Main Street Arts isn't making any apocalypse plans for now.   He's already made some plans for February 2nd and no way I'm going to take this plunge with him.   Not when he's planning to take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean on what might be the coldest day of the year.  He's doing this for a good cause though--Special Olympics.   If you'd like to help sponsor Arthur, visit his donation page.   Or if you want to join him in the water you can visit the Polar Plunge webpage for more information.  I hear Virginia Beach is a lovely place to be in February.

Company's Coming!

Gotta run now.  Got guests coming to visit for the next several days.  I'll be in and out of the blog world and off and on my blog.  The posts should be here, but I may not always be.  Come to think of it I'm not all here a lot of the time.

Are you ready for Christmas?    Have you got some big plans for 2013?   Friday's not really the end you know, but sometimes it feels that way doesn't it?

  1. I'm getting nervous now in advance of the end of the world in all honesty Lee so this blogfest will be a good reminder that it's all not really going to end. I'm also just beginning to get into the swing of Christmas too myself which is good because it'll be here very soon. Great post buddy, hopefully all is well.

  2. Last blogfest ever? No!!!
Some of the comments were great on Monday's post. Saw Larry's - it was awesome!

  3. I have a conspiracy theory friend who is deep in this stuff. I have a posting set for tomorrow and I guess should I survive it, I will stop by to read the postings in the Blogfest!

  4. Sorry I missed the last post, Arlee. No comments to add since, the whole world over, comments have been made to show everything from human brilliance, to knee-jerk, to kind heartedness to down right questionable if the comment came from someone with a heart at all.

I don't have plans for end of the world. Just trying to live one day at a time is enough work for me lol!!!

If I don't get to say it because of the on and off of getting to visit blogs lately, please have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :-)

  5. Yeamie -- I think there are a lot bigger worries for us than the world ending on this Friday. Have a nice Christmas.

Alex -- I greatly appreciated Larry's response as well.

Karen - Merry Christmas to you and to everyone else as well.

Gossip -- Some conspiracists are hot and heavy into the 2012 predictions. I always enjoy hearing about this kind of stuff.

Angela -- One day at a time is probably what makes the most sense. And a reciprocal holiday greeting to you.

  6. Another Blogfest? I think December set the record! No plans on our end, although we will fill up both our gas tanks. You just never know.

  7. I saw an interesting show on Dr. Phil with John Edwards about "The End." I honestly wish Dr. Phil had let John Edwards talk a little more. Dr. Phil is usually a bit better about that sort of thing. Moving on.

Anyway, in the one sentence that John Edwards could squeak out about the "End of the World" after all of Dr. Phil's build-up about it, he said that it wasn't that it was going to be the End of The World but he did see a Big Shift of Consciousness across the board.

Given the current events on our "Home Stage" and the "World Stage," I can kind of see where he might have been going with that. Unfortunately, Dr. Phil cut to commercial and that was the last we heard about it.

So, I leave you to draw your own conclusions from that show. I have been thinking a lot about it as I have been watching World events unfold and events here at home.

I tend to take things that psychics say with a grain of salt. However, that has made more sense to me than a lot of scenarios floating around. Particularly, since I feel like I am already seeing some of it already... Although, it has been suggested (by a blogger and friend that I respect very much) that it has been in the works a long time and just coming to fruition now. (That would be the cultural shift - not The End.) So, maybe this is just a shift reaching its completion. I really don't know...

Sorry for taking up so much space. I think this comment is as long as your post!

  8. Merry Christmas!
Now go throw some popcorn on your tree!

  9. Enjoy your guests, have a wonderful Christmas, and I hope you have a great new year!

  10. I don't put up a tree. I just have a glass jar filled with ornaments that looks nice and a super tiny tree that plugs into the USB port of my computer. It glows all night.

    Have a merry christmas.

  11. Our tree is up, there are still packages to be wrapped and I'm marking the end of the world by having coffee that morning with a friend.

  12. Stephen -- Maybe filling the gas tanks might be a good idea. If zombies start taking over L.A. we might want to make a fast getaway.

Robin -- No problem, I enjoy long comments. It could be that Dr. Phil was providing Edward a limited platform since John Edward already has several books and videos etc and his own TV show where he talks about his theories. It was a teaser so viewers would explore on there own. I think a culture/belief shift has been underway for a long time.

Andrew - Probably won't deal with messy tree popcorn, but I might eat some caramel corn.

Ann -- Thank you! Wishing you all the best as well.

Michael-- Thanks and back at ya! If it were just me I'd probably take the route that you take if I did any decorating at all. The tree is mainly my wife's thing.

Johanna -- We have a tree, but nary a gift under it. And thus far we have nothing planned for Friday. I think I'd prefer to stay home, but who knows with the guests here and all.

  13. Hope you & yours enjoy a Merry Christmas Lee.

  14. Well, the Blogfest sounds interesting! Not sure I'll be around. But hopefully the world won't end that day; I have a lot of plans for the new year. Arlee, enjoy the holidays and Happy New Year!

  15. Wanda-- Thank you and to you as well.

Lena -- I'm making plans for my future as well. Not gonna let no end of the world stop me.

    Duncan -- I'm sure you're correct.

  16. Great post Lee, oh yes I am ready for Christmas, I suppose you could say that the appropriate film to watch would be Home alone.

PS: it's really hitting me hard being alone this year but I know there are others worse off than myself.

  17. Thank you for the mention, Lee! I'm not at all prepared for Christmas, though I did go buy the groceries for the big dinner I'll be hosting here on Christmas Eve. Have a great time with your guests!

    Shannon at The Warrior Muse

  18. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season. Glad it's the 22nd here and I didn't miss the last blogfest. - LOL.

  19. It would appear we're all still here, which is good, because I'd really like to see what Santa brought. But also bad, because my hubz drove home on a flat tire this evening. So had the apocalypse occurred, we wouldn't need to pay for a new tire & rim. Dunno, kind of a toss-up. Plans for 2013 include finishing my novel, losing 50 pounds, riding an elephant, & a couple other things I can't recall off my list. I'm quite serious about that elephant thing though. For realz! :)

  20. Yvonne -- Don't mean to make light of your situation, but Home Alone was funny--at least you still have your sense of humor.

Shannon -- I went grocery shopping the other day as well and now my wife keeps adding more to the guest list. Maybe I'll need to buy more groceries.

Rhonda -- Yeah, the apocalypse was a bust.

Andi -- Ending the world would have solved a lot of problems, but I'd rather enjoy more of life.
