How About Some Ketchup With Those Fries?

Company's gone and summer's big event in our household is over.   We had a wonderful time with our daughters and their families over the past couple of weeks.  Our soon-to be two year-old granddaughter kept us on our toes, but kept us thoroughly entertained.  She doesn't live far from us, so we do get to see her now and then, but nowhere near as much as we did when the small fry and her parents were staying at our house while the sisters were in town.  One daughter lives nearby, but the other three are divided between Houston, Texas and New Jersey.

So now it's back to staying mostly at home and getting back to my regular schedule that includes blogging.  I've had some catching up to do with my blogging activity--seems like I always do.  I'm still working on my tossing it out clean-up mission and have plenty of catching up to do with that as well.  Of course, I guess that mission never really ends for any of us.

On the surface it looks like I've made headway in my email cleanup as the tally of new email is significantly less than it was last Tuesday.   Much of the email is not gone, but merely moved to files like many of you had suggested that I do.  This coming Monday I'll be telling  you what these files contain and hoping some of you might be able to advise me about some of these sites.   On the other hand, I may be introducing some of you to some great sites that you don't know about.

This week's installment of Tossing It Out Tuesday will be addressing the topic of Bad Medicine.  And on Wednesday I'm going to talk about a bit of foolishness from my younger days that I now regret in many ways.  Thursday will be another Debate Day topic--by the way, thanks for all the stimulating discussion from last Thursday's Debate Day.   Friday will be a mystery.

The weather is still rather pleasant here in Los Angeles--not as bad as I've been hearing about in other parts of the country.   If you're one of those who are frying in the heat, I don't really envy you.  If it's too hot outside, don't fry, turn up the AC and stay inside and play catch up with me.

  1. Good round up and of the future week ahead. The summer is fasly going into that autumnal chill in the air, leaves already falling from the trees. Ah well it's something we can do nothing about.
Pleased you enjoyed your time with your daughters and grandchild. Nothing like a family gathering. It's been quite a few years since all my three children and grandchildren have all been under the same roof......here's hoping.

    Have a lovely week-end.
    Yvonne.

  3. I seem to be always playing catch-up.

It's hot here, but not as hot as last summer. Central Texas is always hot in the summer, so we're used to it.

  4. Couldn't help noticing my favorite burger: In-n-Out. Classic SoCA burger. I know the fries are freshly made but for some reason they're not as good as McDonald's fries, unless you make sure they're well done.

    Glad you're doing more blogging!

  5. Ah, In-N-Outs finest quisine. I had to add an In-N-Out scene in my book. Its a So. Cal. icon. And the cooler than normal temperatures have been nice. Hope they stay with us a bit more.

  7. I too am glad that you had a wonderful visit. We are blessed in that one daughter lives in Portland, 50 miles south of us, two in vancouver about 48 miles south of us and one is staying with us for a bit, though she had been in Illinois for two years.

It would be hard on Irene if any of the girls moved significantly away, I am afraid she would lobby that we too move.

Our weather has cooled down also, although next Friday, we are having a huge family BBQ with aunts and cousins from CA, cousins from WA, sister and family from northern WA and all the daughters and grandkids and it will be 85.

Looking forward to your next week. Have a great weekend and Lord's Day!

  8. Yvonne-- With the weddings over that past year we've been able to all get together at one time, but as the girls grow older and have families this might become a rarer occurrance. I hope not, but I know how it is with my siblings and my mother--it's difficult to get everyone together at one time.

Alex -- I enjoy family gatherings.

Helen -- Yes, I've experience Texas in the summer and I know what you're saying.

Lisa -- The In-and-Out reference is an inside joke for my daughters. When they set up their itinerary for what they wanted to do in CA. they had eating at In-and-Out on their list for each day. They don't have the chain where they live now and they miss it. I live here in So. Cal. and probably don't eat at In & Out more than 3 times a year. I do like their fries since they make them fresh right before your eyes and don't use frozen french fries.

Stephen -- I'm amazed when I pass the In-And-Out in Downey at certain times of the day. The parking lot is full, the restaurant is packed, and cars are backed up for the drive through up Lakewood Avenue. In-and-Out is not only an icon, it's an obsession. Good reference to use in your book. Product placement for the movie version.

Liza -- I like weather to stay between 55 and 75 degrees fahrenheit. Now that's nice!

Gregg -- Hope you have a good time with family. I enjoy those times. You are fortunate to have your girls fairly close. My wife is already pondering where she'd like to move after she retires. But with girls on each coast and one down by the Gulf where do we go? Guess we could go to a midpoint equidistant to all of them. That probably would be Kansas City. I don't know if I'm up for living there though and we'd still be 1000 miles from each of them. We need to all move to one place I think.

  14. It's a strange feeling, isn't it, when you've had a child around for a while, and then they go home (or in my case, I went home)? I've spent the last few days with my nephews (aged five and two) and niece (four months old). They are adorable, say the funniest things, and all of them charm their aunt into almost anything, but I must admit it was sort of nice getting back to my own (quiet) apartment again.

Glad you had a good time with your family too :)

  16. CC -- Hope you enjoyed your vacation. Yes, the little ones can be so cute and fun, but they sure are tiring as well. I don't know how I raised 4 of my own.

Jules -- Catch up never ends as long as we are alive. Keep playing.

  17. I miss IN N OUT so much already. As soon as I saw the picture my stomach jumped a little. The visits go by so fast and now we have to go back to our Sunday phone calls.
