This Is Me--2024 A to Z Theme

My A to Z Themes in the past have covered a range of topics and for 2025 the theme is a random assemblage of things that are on my mind--or that just pop into my mind. Whatever! Let's just say I'll be "Tossing It Out" for your entertainment or however it is you perceive these things.

Home Happy

I was reading a feature story in the Los Angeles Times about John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten of the iconic punk rock band the Sex Pistols.  In the interview he was talking about domesticity and how he doesn't need to go anywhere far from home.  He apparently just lives his life in Venice Beach in contented bliss.

Johnny still records music and sometimes tours with the re-formed Pistols as well as his own band, Public Image Limited (PIL).  He essentially keeps a low profile and has mostly been left to the periphery of public view.  I guess Johnny Rotten is not totally gone, but he has kind of faded away.

The story made me reflect on my own life.  Though never a notorious person, when I was younger I felt a need to always be on the go and doing things with other people.  I wanted to be away from home.  Sitting at home often left me feeling discontent.

Now that I'm older, I still enjoy traveling whenever I have an opportunity to do so, but it always feels kind of good to get back home.  There is a satisfaction in being home.  Everything I need is here and I don't have to necessarily be anywhere else to feel complete.   It's nice to get out sometimes, but there's no place like home.  Most of the time I'm home, happy.

How about you?   Do you enjoy just being at home?   Are you more enlivened when you're on the go?    Is it better to burn out than to fade away?
