Almost forgot about this in the fray of A to Z flurry. It's time for another gathering of the Insecure amongst us...
The Insecure Writer's Support Group
Join us on the first Wednesday of each month in Alex J. Cavanaugh's Insecure Writer's Support Group--a forum of writers who gather to talk about writing and the writer's life. For a complete list of participants visit Alex's Blog.
The co-hosts for the May 7 posting of the IWSG are Feather Stone, Janet Alcorn, Rebecca Douglass, Jemima Pett, and Pat Garcia
May 7 question - Some common fears writers share are rejection, failure, success, and lack of talent or ability. What are your greatest fears as a writer? How do you manage them?
Well, if you're not doing anything then there's not much fear involved until you confront that which you are not doing. I know what I'm not doing much of and that is writing. No writing means no submissions to get rejected, or failing or succeeding. I wouldn't necessarily call that management, but at least I'm not frozen in fear.
Frozen in laziness maybe. Or frozen in lack of inspiration. But no fear for now.
Right now my big fear is hitting the wrong key on a keyboard that loves to add unnecessary letters...
ReplyDeleteCW, something seems to have a mind of its own on my computer too. ai will be controlling us soon if it doesn't already.

No fear with actual writing as I'm not doing any either.
ReplyDeleteAlex, I guess you're doing lots of other stuff that is probably at least as important.

Oh, I like your approach. "Frozen in laziness" - yes, that's me too. :(
ReplyDeleteOlga, at least I know I'm not alone.

Marketing is my fear. You could have the best book ever...but if people don't know about it they won't buy it.
ReplyDeleteUnknown, I think a lot of writers are intimidated by marketing.

I'll own it - I'm enjoying my writing laziness.
ReplyDeleteL.Diane, well, what's not to enjoy? Except sometimes it's like drinking too much or eating too much rich food. Later I have regrets that I didn't accomplish more. But happpily.

Frozen in laziness and lack of inspiration sounds a lot like me. I'm in my, I'd rather play in my garden phase of life, but trying to keep going as I can.
ReplyDeleteI fear all the distractions. It's spring and there are so many tasks!
