This Is Me--2024 A to Z Theme

My A to Z Themes in the past have covered a range of topics and for 2024 the theme is a personal retrospective that I call "I Coulda Been" which is in reference to my job and career arc over my lifetime. I'll be looking at all sorts of occupations that I have done or could have done. Maybe you've done some of these too!

Themes, Themes, Themes! ( #BOTB & #AtoZChallenge Theme )

April almost here and right now a lot of bloggers are talking about their themes for the 2025 Blogging from A to Z April Challenge.  Themes, themes, themes--so I guess I'll make this post about my theme as well as other themes for my mid-month Battle of the Bands...

My 2025 A to Z Theme?

Essentially I don't really have a theme for this go around.   Haven't thought about it much and now I'm thinking of theme as more of an afterthought.  I'm going to wing it I guess.  But these days I do a lot of that.  I might try to keep some kind of gimmick going which involves three word titles where all three words begin with the letter of the day. Maybe I'll keep that up or maybe I'll just throw up my hands and abandon that idea.  Who knows?  I'm going to just go as I go and hopefully have a good time with it all.  Hope you do too!

Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands is the blogging event started by Far Away Series and now hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands.   This event happens each month on the 15th and on some there is also a Battle on the 1st of the month.  My blog is one of those with a second Battle excepting over these summer months.   The premise is simple:  Listen to the songs presented below and then in the comments vote for your favorite and tell us why you liked it.  Then visit the links listed near the bottom of this post for more Battle action.

Themes

Since I'm on the topic of themes I'm going to Battle two songs that are "themes" or have the word "theme" in their titles. The first is one of my "biggies" from my Lee's Basement series.  The second is a biggie from the hit charts that you all probably know well.    Which do you prefer?

Wichita Fall  "Schubert's Theme"  (1969)

This song was one of my favorites from the Wichita Fall album that I used to enjoy after my friends had gone home after a night of partying and I was alone in my basement still coming down from a psychedelic trip.  I was listening to a lot of music by classical composer Schubert back then so this song stood out even though it doesn't sound much like anything by the classical master.  But I think it's a fun song...

Love Unlimited Orchestra "Love's Theme" (1973)

Who hasn't heard this song?  Really?  I mean it was everywhere back in the seventies.  Early disco that sounds pretty good to my ears these days.  I was never a disco hater and this song makes me even enjoy grooving to the beat. How about you?

Time to Vote!

Okay, back off the dance floor and into your seats!  It's time for a Battle of the Bands!  You're supposed to vote on one of these songs.  Which one do you prefer?  Battles are no fun without you the reader participating.
Hopefully you have an opinion of some kind.  You don't have to know about music to have an opinion since it all comes down to your own personal taste.

Please vote on your favorite by letting us know your choice in the comment section and tell us why you prefer the version you chose. Then after you've finished here, please visit the other blogs listed below who may or may not be participating this time around. And if you've put up your own BOTB contest let us know that as well so we can vote on yours. I don't know if anyone else will be doing a Battle this time around, but you can still check out these sites.

Here are some other places where you might find BOTB posts:

  1. I actually like visiting blogs with a random theme! It keeps me checking to see what's posted. There are a few themes I have no interest in, and while I will comment a couple of times, I don't read them all, A to Z.

    1. Lisa, randomness is life in a way so I'll be reflecting my life. I do that anyway but this time I won't be thinking so much about keeping things consistent.

    1. Ronel, my themed posts usually end up being pretty random much of the time so this year won't be that different.

  3. For sure, "Love's Theme" for me. Barry White was a big man with a big heart and brought that to everyone.

    1. John H., I actually don't remember White's name attached to this song, but I wasn't paying much attention to that music scene back then.

Voting starts off with Love Unlimited

  4. I like them both, but Love's Theme is just TOO well known to not vote for it. And it is a beautiful melody.

    1. 6-gun, that "Love's Theme" is a pretty substantial piece of modern music history. I do like it.

      Another vote for Love Unlimited.

  5. Both songs would make great soundtracks. Gotta go with Barry White though.
Good luck winging it. I did that the first year and my posts were all over the map.

    1. Alex, they are pretty cinematic sounding pieces.

      Another vote for Love Unlimited.

  6. I'm going with Schubet's Theme. I know the other one very well but I like this one with the horns and the climax to the song. Who needs a theme, go with what you feel each day.

  7. Pretty neat, R. LEE BOID -- a themed BOTB contest about "Themes". The ol' double-whammy! I can dig it.

I was definitely a "Disco Sucks!" guy back in the day. And with only a small handful of exceptions, I still feel pretty much the same way about it.

However, having said that, I'll add that 'Love's Theme' is amongst that small handful of Disco exceptions that I do like. ALSO!... that song is included on the soundtrack for 'THE SPIRIT OF '76', which is one of my all-time favorite "guilty pleasure" movies! Anyone who can still remember July 4, 1976 *NEEDS* to see that cheesy, funny movie. Even David Cassidy was willing to poke a little fun at himself.

I liked the Wichita Fall recording quite well, and if it had been put against 99.7% of other Disco songs, I'd have happily voted for it. But not against 'Love's Theme' I can't.

Good Battle. Better than the voting results so far would seem to indicate.

    1. STMcC, I'll have to admit of having a liking for disco music. I wasn't into the scene, but the music was something I enjoyed. But I like all kinds of music.

      Again it's Love Unlimited

  8. Random without a theme should be interesting.

  9. I find it hard to believe that April is just around the corner. I hope you have fun pulling together random topics for each day of the challenge. I miss doing A2Z but I lack the energy to invest in it again. I had hoped I would've return by now. Oh well, maybe next year!

For this BOTB installment, I'm giving my vote to Barry White! Fabulous instrumental arrangement and when he sings, I love his warm baritone vocals!

    Have a bandtastic week, Lee!

  10. If I was doing the A to Z Challenge, my theme would probably be food and gardening.

    Barry White all the way!

  11. I really liked that first one. That said, Barry and LUO.
