I'm not drunk and crazy, but I'm talking about the song "Drunk and Crazy" which is actually not the real name of the song. It's just what some people call it. Crazy isn't it, but "crazy" it isn't. Read on and find out...
Battle of the Bands
Battle of the Bands is the blogging event started by Far Away Series and StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands. I do this event each month on the 15th and the 1st of the month. The premise is simple: Listen to the songs presented below and then in the comments vote for your favorite and tell us why you liked it. Then visit thHe links listed near the bottom of this post for more Battle action.
Bolivian Lament
In this Battle I'll be sharing covers of one of my all time favorite rock songs. It's a "rock en español" song that was a big hit for the Argentine group Enanitos Verdes in 1994 and that's how I first heard it. However, it was first recorded by Alcohol Etílico (Ethyl Alcohol) in 1986. The song as recorded by Enanitos Verdes was frequently played on Los Angeles Spanish language rock stations back then and I was captivated by it. At the time I was dating my present wife who is Latina and sometimes I would knock on her door to pick her up and I'd sing the chorus "here I am drunk and crazy" and she would get a big kick out of that. I think she might have also appreciated that I was singing to her in Spanish--and that I actually wasn't drunk and crazy.
This Battle will feature a showdown between two live recordings of the song. The first will be a more recent performance of the song by the original artist and then a version as performed by a female artist. See which you like best....
Alcohol Etilico "Lamento Boliviano" (2006)
Ana Victoria "Lamento Boliviano" (2014)
If you are curious about the English translation here is a link to a version that is sung in English and displays the lyrics as such. Kind of strange lyrics in a way, but I guess it's about Bolivia, so there. Please do not vote for this version as it is here for your reference only.
English version: Bolivian Lament
Time to Vote!
Don't use the excuse that you don't understand Spanish! Enjoy the music! Which song interpretation do you prefer? Battles are no fun without you the reader participating. Hopefully you have an opinion of some kind. You don't have to know about music to have an opinion since it all comes down to your own personal taste.
Please vote on your favorite by letting us know your choice in the comment section and tell us why you prefer the version you chose. Then after you've finished here, please visit the other blogs listed below who may or may not be participating this time around. And if you've put up your own BOTB contest let us know that as well so we can vote on yours. I don't know if anyone else will be doing a Battle this time around, but you can still check out these sites.
