This Is Me--2024 A to Z Theme

My A to Z Themes in the past have covered a range of topics and for 2024 the theme is a personal retrospective that I call "I Coulda Been" which is in reference to my job and career arc over my lifetime. I'll be looking at all sorts of occupations that I have done or could have done. Maybe you've done some of these too!

Fridays (#AtoZChallenge) (#BOTB results)

It's kind of handy when the letter "F" lands on a Friday and my April A to Z theme is Time. Friday's are definitely cool for most of us. Back when I was working it often didn't make that much of a difference to me because I often worked on weekends, so Friday was like just another day. I can understand why a lot of folks want to thank God or thank goodness it's Friday.

As promised on my Battle of the Bands post last Saturday, here are the results in the battle between Jim Nabors and the Match singing versions of "The Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet"...

Battle of the Bands Results

GomerPyle--er, I mean Jim Nabors's version of "A Time for Us" really grew on me as I kept listening to it.  Such sweet melodiousness to the music and singing.  However, my preference of  psychedelic leaning music makes me hone in on The Match.  I like those vocal harmony groups and the classical sounds of the instrumentation rounded the entire effect for me very nicely.  My vote goes to the version by The Match.

This past battle was a wild one!  Great turn out voting, but it was also opening day of the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge.   This round of Battle stayed close right up to near the end when The Match took a lead and kept it.

Final Vote Tally:

Jim Nabors       22 votes

The Match        29 votes

Next Battle of the Bands Post on Saturday April 15th

Smack dab in the middle of the month, between the days of the ongoing A to Z Challenge, comes another music Battle.   This Battle might be just the cure some of you will need from blog post fatigue.  There's still a lot of A to Z post ahead!  By the way, this paragraph contains clues as to the next song hit from the eighties.  Do you see what song I'll be using?

What is your favorite day of the week?   Do you like to celebrate Fridays?  Do you mind working on weekends?

    1. Yvonne, Sunday is usually a nice day for me, but I never much liked Sunday nights when I was in school because it meant the next day I had to go back.

Did not get signed up (for A to Z) but took your advice and "shared" some of these posts at the Facebook account (that we seldom use)... "Social Networking" is what we were told about this April's Posts...

    1. Stacey, Frankenstein is a good topic for "F". I've been mainly just visiting other bloggers and leaving the link to my blog and getting good enough results that way.

    1. Alex, I wasn't sure what to expect but I would have expected Jim Nabors to come out the winner because of the name recognition of Gomer Pyle.

  4. Friday is the weekend where I am, so have to manage my time carefully on Fridays during the A-Z.

    1. Nilanjana, time has been getting away from me once again this year--since my wife is on vacation this week everyday has been seeming like the weekend. Next week my schedule will be back to normal.

    1. Jacqui, apparently not many people are familiar with The Match. I had a difficult time finding info about them.

  6. TGIF all around! One day closer to Sunday when we get a break from the A to Z. ☺ Is it just me, or are others already suffering internet fatigue? And I'm SO far behind with comments, it's ridiculous! Oh well, one day at a time. Interesting battle! I'm a bit surprised at the outcome.

  7. Great battle! I do enjoy Fridays. I also work most every weekend. I like Wednesdays for the sense of reaching a sort of summit, assessing where I've been, and planning where I'm going.

    1. Diedre, my wife has been lamenting that today is her last official day of vacation and she'll be going back to work on Monday. At least she likes her job which is good. Wednesday is like reaching the highest point of the roller coaster--everything is basically on the downhill run after that.

  8. Fridays are often less fun that Saturdays and Sundays for our family. It seems like Friday is the day we are racing to finish whatever work we have for the week - or the day that my daughters start planning to do homework over the weekend (which means the emphasis is quite a bit less fun). I think "Friday" or the idea of the day before the weekend just depends on your weekend.

    1. Tyrean, homework over the weekend? Bummer. But I guess I used to sometimes have weekend homework which I would always save until Sunday night. You're right about the concept of days, weekends, and such is relative.

I like any day that is before a day I get a break. Any other day, meh.

    1. Pat, a day before a break does carry some weight of anticipation of fun. After the break the anticipation becomes very different.

  10. I always loved Fridays when I worked, esp if my bosses let me go home early. And whenever I would take a 3 day weekend, or 4 day including a Monday holiday, I always chose Friday.

    1. JoJo, some working folks seem to live for Friday. If you work during the weekend then it doesn't matter so much.

  11. I remember muttering TFIF (excuse my language) at the end of quiet weeks at my pub. Friday night was drinker's night. Saturday was eater's night and Sunday was ..well, Sunday! Then it was back to the dreary old week days again. Roll on Friday!

    Another day in Amble Bay!

    1. Keith, the measurement of days in a pub is likely different than the way a lot of folks measure days.

  12. Happy Friday! Saturday is my favorite day of the week, even though I still do some work on Saturdays (and Sundays) I don't have to get up quite as early if I don't want to. Glad I voted for the winner. Congrats on a great first week of the A2Z.

    1. Janet, Saturday is probably my favorite day too taking all of my life into consideration. Saturday is usually my day for sleeping in though my idea of "sleeping late" probably is far different than most people--maybe 7 AM if I can manage to sleep that long.

  13. I don't have a favorite day, but I do have a least favorite day of the week.

    Tuesday.

It's tough getting through Tuesdays. I've lost the head of steam that comes with Monday, but there's no end in sight.

  14. Yippee for Fridays when one works Monday to Friday. I'm surprised that Jim Nabors didn't take it but this is the fun nature of the BOTB. I am thinking the battle will involve the band "The Cure"

  16. This was a really terrific Battle, LEE! It seemed neck 'n' neck all the way up until the very end.

I was following the comments via Email and watching how the vote went. And then I saw how right at the end The Match ran off a whole string of unanswered votes and pulled off the victory in the last half of the homestretch.

I really enjoyed both recordings, so I didn't really have a dog in this fight even though I voted for Gomer Pyle.

    Great BOTB installment, buddy!

    1. STMcC, this is how I like to see a Battle go especially if it happens on a day where there are a lot of voters. A win on either side would have been fine with me as I liked both versions.

  17. Lee,

I do look forward to Fridays because this means I get to spend a few relaxing days with DH and every other Friday he has off which is extra nice. The way we celebrate Fridays generally is to settle in with a movie night with pizza. That's such fun! I picked the winner in this round of BoTB. At least your showdown wasn't so lopsided as mine.

Good that the post fell on a Friday. I had a post that fell on a Thursday, great time for #ThursdayTips, but I decided to ditch the hashtag for now.

Anyway, my F post: “Which fictional character that you created is your favorite, and why?”.

It's interesting because one of the writers said he saw spikes in sales. I said I don't know if the post helped, but if yes, I was glad to be of help :)
