This week it's all about the vote and the results. I've got some results, but not the big results much of America is waiting for. These are the Battle of the Bands results....
Battle of the Bands Results
My most recent Battle was one between songs about writers and writing in honor of NANO month (look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about). This Battle found hippie dippy Donovan up against Lloyd Whoever-He-Is Cole. Cole's song was a catchy tune that won the hearts of most of the voters. I'd never of Cole before, but I liked his sound and his song seemed appropriate for a writerly song Battle.
Donovan's song has been a big favorite of mine for over fifty years. Even in my high school days I could appreciate Donovan's song portrayal of a writer past his prime and fading into his own memories. I think it's a wonderful song and that's the one that got my vote in this round.
However as it is in the song market, the more poppy sound of Lloyd Cole won over the most listeners. I guess that's what I should have expected.
Final Vote Tally
Lloyd Cole 11 votes
Donovan 6 votes
Next Battle on Friday December 1
I'm going to be pretty much off line for a few weeks. Maybe I'll pop on now and then, but I've got some busy times ahead. Have a great and bountiful Thanksgiving!
My vote wasn't needed anyway I see.
ReplyDeleteI might have one more post this month but most likely not until next IWSG day.
Alex, votes are always appreciated no matter what it is--at least here at Battle of the Bands.

It is that time of year to be busy. Bummer I voted for Donovan...oh well. Maybe next time
ReplyDeleteBirgit, true about the busy part, but this November is unusually busy for me. Thanks for your vote for Donovan--that was my favorite too.

I do not recall ever hearing that song by Donovan. That blows my proverbial mind... When I was a teenager, my Dad gave my Brother and me the opportunity to purchase our first eight track tape cartridges. He chose "The Best of The Association" and "Beatles VI" and I went with "Paul Revere and The Raiders' Greatest Hits" and "Donovan's Greatest Hits." (I was a fan.)
ReplyDeleteMichael, I had the song on a live Donovan album that I got back in 1968 or so when I was still in high school. Always liked the song.
DeleteThose albums you mentioned are all good ones. The Association especially was a good one that I had also. Also liked Paul Revere and the Raiders a great deal. Watched their TV show "Where the Action Is" every afternoon after school.

An excellent battle, just the same ;-) Take care, Lee. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteDiedre, I thought it was a pretty good outcome.

These battle have a way of turning out the way you least expect them to go. That's part of the fun to see if they'll go the way you think. I hope you and yours have a blessed Thanksgiving, my friend. Thanks for sharing the results in your BOTB!
ReplyDeleteCathy, I'm not surprised that my Battle came out the way it did. The Donovan song was a bit more arty and less commercial and those kinds of songs don't usually win.

It wasn't exactly a stellar Battle for the Mellow Yellow Fellow, but maybe his next one will be better.

STMcC, it might be a while before that next Donovan Battle happens, but you never know.
