Knowledge (Elements of Blogging) #AtoZChallenge

While it can reasonably be argued that all blogs contain and impart knowledge, there are some blogs where knowledge is the focus.  These blogs might serve an educational capacity of teaching the readers about some particular topic or various topic through the dissemination and examination of knowledge in the form of facts, data, or certain opinions.

Knowledge blogs can be about history, geography, law, health, or any number of other topics.  Since most of us who blog about factual information are providing food for the mind so to speak, we are engaging in a form of teaching others.  The blogs that might be more accurately referred to as "knowledge" blogs have a teaching mission as the intent of the blog posts.   This mission might have a purpose of specific educational value or they might be providing knowledge for certain groups of bloggers such as writers.

A blogger's intent would be the primary definer as to whether their blog should be considered to be a knowledge blog.  Also in this category we might include bloggers whose focus is trivia or more specific arcane knowledge intended for entertainment value or educational value.

Do you ever use knowledge blogs for research?   Would you tend to agree with my assessment of a knowledge centered blog as opposed to a blogger who might sporadically drop tidbits of knowledge into their blog posts?   Are there some other "K" blogging themes that you can think of?

Here are some knowledge filled blogs:

    1. A blog based on kitchen related things would provide a lot of post inspirations especially if food and recipes are part of it.

    1. Jo, you could probably do well with a "Kitchen Blog". You provide a lot of recipes on your current site. "Kindness" could offer a lot of possibilities as well.

  11. I often read blogs about writing. I think fellow authors can impart a great deal of useful knowledge and experience about the craft and the business if writing. And of course when I'm researching a story, I'll use blogs along with other sources.

  12. I do not use blogs as sources, not in general. There's no way to be certain if someone is just spouting off or if they actually know what they're talking about. I go to more official places when I need to fact check or research.
Also, those kinds of blogs tend to be really dry.

    1. It really depends. For the most part a blog would not be a credible citation to use in research, but it can be a start. There are some blogs that probably are authoritative, but I don't think I totally rely on any blog for information the I was going to use for citations.

  19. I've come to really enjoy food blogs, you often find ideas there you might not come across otherwise. I don't know if I would use a knowledge blog for research, though I certainly have for quick grammar rules (though you have to be careful!).

As for other K topics, hmm, I kinda began and ended with "kinda." ;)

  20. Yes, I agree that some blogs focus on the sharing knowledge and yes I do use some of them, especially if I am doing research on a topic and have come to trust a certain blogger or if they have convinced me of the worth of what they are sharing with evidence. Maria@Delight Directed Living

    1. Maria, if the blogger is a known expert or has proven credible in the past I might trust what they say on a topic, but still I might some additional back-up from other sources.

  21. For me the blog has to demonstrate that they know what they are talking about. I find them a good resource for areas a little too esoteric for online encyclopedias.

    1. Exactly, Tim. Credibility is as important on a blog as it is in some other scholarly source if I'm doing research. Otherwise it's for interesting reading that doesn't require evidence necessarily.
