Riding Off Into the Sunset ( #BOTB Results )

My horse needs some feed, my gun needs some bullets, and maybe I need a shot of whiskey or somethin' or other.  Think I'll hole up in town for a while.  This old world is looking crazy.  Everyone looks like a bandit and stealin' seems to be the norm of late...

Battle of the Bands Results

My previous Battle was a western showdown between David Crosby and the group Mountain with their takes on the cowboy movie genre.  This was a tight race until Mountain took the lead in the final stretch.  Though I do like David Crosby's song a lot, especially the extended jam sessions, I've always thought the song was a bit weak from the standpoint of lyrics.  But it's a good song.  Still, my preference goes with Jack Bruce's "Theme from an Imaginary Western".   Always loved the majestic sound of Mountain.  Their music lives up the group's name.

Final Vote Tally

David Crosby       7 votes

Mountain             10 votes

What Next?

I'm likely going to be lying low in the next few weeks.  Christmas season usually seems to be kind of slow in the blogging world anyway, though things have been slowing down as it is.  Like some of you, I think I need a rest and recharge as far as blogging goes.  Probably I will show up with an Insecure Writer's Support Group post in January, but I won't even guarantee that.

Of course, as always in my cantankerous blogging ways, I could pop in any time with some kind of rant or revelation or whatever might illuminate a light bulb in my brain.  If that happens, then that's what happens.

       In the meantime...

Have a very Merry Christmas...

and dare I say "A Happy New Year"?

  1. I'm just poking in now and then but also lying low for the rest of the year. January 6 is the anthology contest winners announcement, so I'll be back for that.
    Merry Christmas, Lee!

    1. Alex, I'll be poking here and there as well, but lying low with my online presence for the most part. Maybe I'll actually get some other things accomplished.

      Merry Christmas to you too!

    1. CW, I'll be locked up in my house for the most part I guess. Orders of our stupid mayors and governors.

  4. Enjoy your blogging break. I've also noticed a lot of people tend to take off, or not post as much, this time of year. Have a happy Christmas and New Year!

    1. Carrie-Anne, the holiday season always seems to be slower for blogging. Maybe this year not so much, but I don't care.

  5. Yes, good time for a break. It may be that BotB has run it's course, anyway. Email me if you start up again.

Until then, as the wise old man of the Mexican Village said to Yul Brenner, Steve McQueen, and Horst Buchholtz in "The Magnificent Seven":

    "Via con Dios."

    2. 6-Gun, I thought you were using some kind of Spanish slang, but I knew what you were saying. I don't know that BOTB has run its course for me as I still probably have around 100 Battles lined up in my queue. But maybe blogging has run its course for me--for now at least.

  6. Lee,

Good battle! Mine tightened up toward the end, too. It's funny how that happens. My pick won but I liked both artists in this round. Good advice on keeping low in Blogosphere. Things will slow down a lot. We're doing another staycation next week, then the following two weeks will be short and busy. I have posts scheduled but I know my presences will be flighty. Take it easy now. I hope you and your wife have a very Merry Christmas, dear friend!

    1. Cathy, my life anymore is a continual staycation. I'm ready to hit the road if this country ever allows free unrestricted travel again.

    1. Debbie D, not much to do in L.A. right now other than lay low. We just go out now and then for necessities or sometimes some carryout food.
That was pretty much my life before COVID though I do miss eating out a couple times a week.

  9. This was a fun tussle. I am on the winning team!

Enjoy your time away, Lee. I cannot imagine how tough life must be in a big city, right now. Maybe by Spring... but let's not wish our lives away. I hope you and yours have a spectacular Christmas month, and a splendid New Year, to boot.

    1. Michael, though I live in the L.A. metropolitan area, where we live doesn't seem real urban feeling. I guess we're part of the sprawl or maybe the suburbs. I don't think I'd want to live in a big city downtown.

  10. Outcome-wise, it was a good Battle, LEE.

I hope you and yourn have a Merry CHRISTmas and a New Year that doesn't include a vaccine to save you from a fake crisis.

Seriously (even though I *WAS* being serious), have a nice HOLYday season and I'll be back to "bote" on your next BOTB installment, whenever it should happen to appear here.

    1. STMcC, thanks for the well wishes and all the same to you.

I'm definitely not going to rush out in panic to get the vaccine and I'm not going to be waiting in any lines for it. Besides, I'm convinced I already had COVID and have my immunity already.

Maybe I'll have a Battle on Jan 15, but I'll see how the coming weeks go. Right now I'm pretty indifferent toward blogging.

  14. I hope your Christmas was good. I hope your New Year is going well. I only read and reviewed 23 books last year, but my goal for this year is 30. My other goals are to publish another fiction book in 2021, do the Blogging from A to Z Challenge in April, and increase the number of authors helped by Operation Awesome.
