Love My Way ( #BOTB )

Computer problems again so I'm having to whip this out at the last minute on a borrowed computer.  But I think it's all simple enough.  Hope you had a happy Valentine's Day...

Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands is the blogging event started by Far Away Series and now hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands.   This event happens each month on the 15th and on some there is also a Battle on the 1st of the month.  My blog is one of those with a second Battle excepting over these summer months.   The premise is simple:  Listen to the songs presented below and then in the comments vote for your favorite and tell us why you liked it.  Then visit the links listed near the bottom of this post for more Battle action.

Mineral  "Love My Way"  (1998)

Grant-Lee Phillips    "Love My Way"  (2006)

Time to Vote!

I hope you loved--or at least kind of liked--the song I chose for this Battle.  I like both versions, but I'm going to pick one as a favorite.  I hope you'll play along with us.   Which song version do you prefer?   Hopefully you have an opinion of some kind.  You don't have to know about music to have an opinion since it all comes down to your own personal taste.

Please vote on your favorite by letting us know your choice in the comment section and tell us why you prefer the version you chose. Then after you've finished here, please visit the other blogs listed below who may or may not be participating this time around. And if you've put up your own BOTB contest let us know that as well so we can vote on yours.

Here are some other places where you might find BOTB posts:

    1. Yvonne, well, last night the computer was working again, though I haven't had a lot of time to be on it today so far.

      First vote goes to Mineral.

    2. Upgraded windows on mine a month ago, my son-in-law is helping me get used to the new ones.
new technology at my age is bewildering.

  2. I'm already chuckling aloud thinking about how much I suspect McCarthy hates this song. Maybe I'm wrong.

I LIKE the song. I was always a fan of The Psychedelic Furs. These two versions are pretty good, and the second one is musically interesting (struck me as sounding a bit like Eddie Vetter) but the video was visually disturbing. Not sure what they were thinking of exactly, but... nah. Skip that thought and stick with music.

I'm going to vote with Mineral. Sounds a bit more like the original.

    1. 6-Gun, I was pretty sure that McCarthy would not like this, but for the sake of keeping variety in my Battles and to cater to my own eclectic tastes I figured this would be a apt Battle. I listened to a lot of Furs in the eighties because I do like their music quite a lot.

I'm not sure why that video was chosen. It's from Secrets Behind the Wall (1965) by Kōji Wakamatsu.

      A vote for Mineral.

  3. Well, Sixgun was pretty close to the truth. I have heard OF The Psychedelic Furs before, but I'm not sure if I've ever heard any of their music. Probably not. At least not intentionally. And I don't recall having heard this song by anyone before. But if Mineral sounds quite a bit like The Psychedelic Furs, then I wouldn't like them at all. Because Mineral featured that "whiny male vocal style" from the '90s that I hated (and still hate) so much. I just wanna slap those guys and tell them to "man-up" and quit whining their way through songs like some teenaged girl with PMS.

Despite the awful video of the second one, I preferred the sound of it. At least it wasn't so whiny, and I was actually able to let it play to the end. (At 3:26 of the first one, I realized that I just couldn't make it another 20-seconds and shut her down.)

Incidentally, although I no longer usually do BOTB installments on the 15th of each month, I made an exception this time because today is the birthday of one of my all-time best friends, who was killed by a car thief in 1989. So, I decided to put together a Battle that relates to him in a couple of ways, in honor of his birth. And... there will be no whining in the 3 songs I chose. Some growling 'n' grunting maybe, but no whining.

    1. STMcC, I had little doubt that you wouldn't think much of this song, but I like it a lot and that's why I used it. The film clip is weird, but I think it worked very well for this version of the song. I've seen weirder stuff.

      A vote for Grant-Lee Phillips.

  4. I've never heard this song in any form, so I didn't have a version to go by, which can be an advantage, because then I can compare them to each other and not to the original. In this ase, I liked the version by Grant-Lee Phillips, so that's who gets the vote.

    1. John H, I'm very surprised that you don't know this song. It used to get a fair amount of radio and MTV play--that's how I knew it and was lured to buy the album soon after it came out.

      A vote for Grant-Lee Phillips.

  5. I am going with Phillips as well. Mineral is locked into 1998; 1998 was not a good music year for me.

    1. Susan K, Mineral is a band that I don't remember, but the later nineties was when I stopped keeping up with a lot of music.

  6. I choose Grant Lee Phillips which I prefer over the first one because of his voice sounding smoother although the video is very disturbing. Our 23 year old tv finally started to go. First the people all looked green and that did get better but the edges were darker like. Vignette picture. We bought a smart tv and finally got that hooked up on. Saturday. The picture is so much better but getting used to how large it is and my hubby put it up a bit too high. We also have the soundspeaker that are not hooked up yet. We have to get the right clips which are coming I. Tomorrow. We might get blasted across the street!

    1. Birgit, I'd say you were due for a modern TV. The prices of them have sure gone down since we bought our big screen which is not a smart one. Have fun with yours!

  9. Lee,

I'm sorry to read that you're having computer problems again. It might be time to invest in a new on before you lose valuable data.

Oddly this is new-to-me song, as are both artists. I found that I preferred GRANT LEE PHILIPS the best. His overall cover appealed to my ears this morning. Thanks for stopping by over the weekend to cast your vote in my Heart and Soul #BoTB Showdown, my friend. Have a good week!

    1. Debbie D, I really surprised if you haven't heard this song by Psychedelic Furs as it's gotten a lot of airplay over the years. I think it's pretty much a "classic".

  11. I vote for the Minerals. I grew up in the 90s and rock music like the Minerals was very popular. It might be a bit unconnected and shallow, but it made me think back to my childhood.
