One of the most common fears or insecurities cited by authors or authors-to-be is that of marketing and promoting ones book. For that matter, promoting anything can leave one feeling a bit insecure at times. Am I talking to the right person? Will my message get to the right person? Does anyone really care?
Marketing and promotions can be a real guessing game sometimes and you never know for sure what is going to work. I've always been fascinated by promoting. I've done a fair share of blog posts on the topic. It's nice to get the scoop from someone who's been involved in the whole marketing and promotion process.
Thank goodness for authors like L. Diane Wolfe who lead us by the hand to make that which might be very difficult to do on our own an easier road to travel

I self published both my books, the first was easier to do than the second, but in the end all was well.
ReplyDeleteI put both on Amazon the UK one also Amazon.com and did quite well. I also had them put in local bookshops and also sold them at concerts I went to.
Have a good day.
Yvonne.
Promoting will never be my favorite thing to do. Maybe her book has a way to do it that doesn't involve me.
ReplyDeleteI am in the throws of promoting my book. So far so good. However, I am a little hoarse form my first book signing.
ReplyDeleteHugs and chocolate,
Shelly
And Yay for Diane!
Looking forward to to a time when I need this book! I echo Alex though.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Lee. I hope others find some nuggets in my book that will make the difference in their book promotions and sales.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Alex. I would so much rather pay a publicist.
ReplyDeleteGood for Diane and all of the publicity she is getting today.
ReplyDeleteIf I was trying to publish, I can't imagine trying to tackle the industry without using a resource like this. Whatever one does in life, research and strategy almost always play an essential part in success.
I'm so thankful that Diane has written this book. I wish I had read it already, but I'm glad it's out now.
ReplyDeleteI have not reached the promoting phase yet (it's a long way there) but it is good to know there is a guide out there when you need it.
ReplyDeleteHey, Lee, I'm ahead of you this week. I helped spread the word on Diane's new release yesterday.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck, Diane.
Promoting is tough for me. I can't stand to be away from my characters long enough to do a good job, and PR is time consuming.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee .. great post - because Diane's book does look as though it's very comprehensive .. and starting out promoting must be so challenging ..
ReplyDeleteCheers Hilary
Promoting is hard and extremely time consuming. It can really eat into writing time.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how much marketing advice I receive, I will never be secure in that arena. It's just not my forte, and honestly, I hate it. I am not into self-promotion, but I have no choice. So books like this always help.
ReplyDeleteBy golly, I will check this book out, and see what happens!
ReplyDeleteDiane's book looks like a very useful tool for writers. She'll so well with this publication, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteThis guide looks like it's absolutely amazing to me Lee, I'm glad to see that there's a guide like this out there to help potential marketers.
ReplyDeleteI agree with many of the comments. Promoting myself is difficult and scary, but worth it.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my nightmare. While I've spent some of my professional life in marketing, the idea of promoting myself and my work sends cold shivers down my spine.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, Thank you. I was not aware of this book. I have always had someone else promote me. Really sacary when one has to venture into this foreign field. I will order this book. I just fininished my novela, now I need to get it out there. Blessings my friend.
ReplyDeleteI am going to keep this little book in mind....I think it would be a good help to me! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Arlee. Yep, if you're going to write it, sometime you have to promote it. I'm sure Spunk's tips are great. I'll be getting hold of one of these soon.
ReplyDeleteI've been married to an "Ad Man" for over 20 years...marketing is no mystery to me. All I have to do is ask:)
ReplyDeleteI guess that step number one is still "finish writing your book", right? That's the one that I seem to be stuck on... Sounds like good info about promotion, which can be really hard for us writerly types.
ReplyDeleteI would love to review this book, as I too am working on promoting my own, but the challenge for me is time. I mean with balancing a full time job and kids and trying to promo the book, I simply run out in the end!
ReplyDeleteDiane is everywhere with a timely and very welcome book. I wish her the best of luck :)
ReplyDeleteTwo of my books were self published. Alot of work but rewarding - they sell by word of mouth. I will never be a best seller but my books are all over the world so I cannot complain...
ReplyDeleteWill pass this info onto several friends who are in the throes...
It is reassuring to know that Diane's book is available, as the whole publishing process seems so overwhelming.
