In Honor of Jane Kennedy Sutton

I had been watching my sidebar to see when Jane Kennedy Sutton would be posting again after her last post of March 28th when she said that she was going to take a break for a couple of weeks.  Then on Monday May 9th of 2011 I saw that a new post had gone up and I anxiously clicked to see what she had written.  An obituary was the last thing I was expecting.

Jane's Monday posts were something I had always looked forward to reading.  She was often funny, thought provoking, and informative.   I didn't know her personally and yet like so many bloggers I read, I felt like I did know her.  She was like an old friend or relative whom I hadn't seen in years, but still faithfully maintained correspondence.  I would comment on her posts and she on mine.  Jane was among the earliest blog relationships I established when I first started blogging and it was a relationship that lasted.

After I read the obituary I was left with a empty stunned silence as I tried to make sense of it.  This is when we ponder our own lives and the lives of our loved ones.  Life is such a beautiful gift and we should do our best to share the goodness and happiness that is ours to give and take as we choose to do.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jane's husband, Kim Sutton, and all of her family.  The loss that I feel in Jane's passing must be magnified many times in your hearts and lives.

Jane, thank you for the support that you gave to me and so many other bloggers with your kind comments and your sharing of knowledge.   I will miss your Monday posts and the encouragement you gave us.   You are dear to us.

  2. A very moving tribute, Lee.

It is a shock when such a thing happens out of the blue - you just assume that the absence of posts is down to other activities taking precedence.

Thankfully there was someone able to get the sad news out.

  4. I'm so sorry for your loss of a good friend. Sometimes I think we get to know someone better in this blogging world than some of the friends we know in real life. You wrote a lovely tribute.
    Very sad news...

  5. I already saw this over at Alex's blog, but it bears repeating. Every moment is precious. Time is an irreplaceable resource, and if we are foolish to squander it, we will never get it back. I had not gotten the chance to enjoy Jane's blog. I can't even begin to imagine the joy she brought to her fellow bloggers while she was with us in this world, this life.

  6. Stunning news. If you were a close friend, not a blogger friend, or a family member, you would know what was going on. But then to find this terrible news, it's so shocking. And sometimes blogger friends can be the very best friends we have. So sorry for you and for Jane's family.

  22. That is the last thing I expected reading your post. Had she made it known how sick she really was? I suppose, that, although her life has come to a close, her legacy and writings live on. And, you can even use her influence in your own. Condolences to her family

  23. I was not a follower of Jane's but I heard about her passing from several people. It makes me ponder my own mortality. If chronological age were taken into consideration, I would be the best bet to go before Jane since I'm 81 but there is often a divine plan that we can't account for. I am extremely happy that I have so many bloggy friends and I love them every day as if we lived next door.

I send you my sympathy for losing a good friend and my condolences to her husband and family.

  39. Thank you so much for this wonderful tribute to my mom Jane. She not only was my mother, but my best friend and my inspiration. She was passionate about her writing and blogging. She would have been honored to know so many people followed her and cared for her. She would be so touched by these lovely tributes to her memory and all the kind words. It brings me great comfort to know that she was able to reach so many people through her writing and her blog. My mom was the writer in the family so I am sorry that I cannot phrase my comments as eloquently as she would have! Thank you again.
