I had been watching my sidebar to see when Jane Kennedy Sutton would be posting again after her last post of March 28th when she said that she was going to take a break for a couple of weeks. Then on Monday May 9th of 2011 I saw that a new post had gone up and I anxiously clicked to see what she had written. An obituary was the last thing I was expecting.
Jane's Monday posts were something I had always looked forward to reading. She was often funny, thought provoking, and informative. I didn't know her personally and yet like so many bloggers I read, I felt like I did know her. She was like an old friend or relative whom I hadn't seen in years, but still faithfully maintained correspondence. I would comment on her posts and she on mine. Jane was among the earliest blog relationships I established when I first started blogging and it was a relationship that lasted.
After I read the obituary I was left with a empty stunned silence as I tried to make sense of it. This is when we ponder our own lives and the lives of our loved ones. Life is such a beautiful gift and we should do our best to share the goodness and happiness that is ours to give and take as we choose to do.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Jane's husband, Kim Sutton, and all of her family. The loss that I feel in Jane's passing must be magnified many times in your hearts and lives.
Jane, thank you for the support that you gave to me and so many other bloggers with your kind comments and your sharing of knowledge. I will miss your Monday posts and the encouragement you gave us. You are dear to us.

How very sad! You have written a lovely tribute to her.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad!
ReplyDeleteA very moving tribute, Lee.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shock when such a thing happens out of the blue - you just assume that the absence of posts is down to other activities taking precedence.
Thankfully there was someone able to get the sad news out.
SueH
A wonderful tribute Lee, but I am so sorry for your "Loss" also that of her family and friends.
ReplyDeleteTake Care.
Yvonne.
I'm so sorry for your loss of a good friend. Sometimes I think we get to know someone better in this blogging world than some of the friends we know in real life. You wrote a lovely tribute.
ReplyDeleteVery sad news...
I already saw this over at Alex's blog, but it bears repeating. Every moment is precious. Time is an irreplaceable resource, and if we are foolish to squander it, we will never get it back. I had not gotten the chance to enjoy Jane's blog. I can't even begin to imagine the joy she brought to her fellow bloggers while she was with us in this world, this life.
ReplyDeleteStunning news. If you were a close friend, not a blogger friend, or a family member, you would know what was going on. But then to find this terrible news, it's so shocking. And sometimes blogger friends can be the very best friends we have. So sorry for you and for Jane's family.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shock! I have counted Jane as one of my blog friends as well. I am just getting back to my own blog and yours is the first place I went. Gosh, I'm really sad. Thanks for your lovely tribute.

That's a fitting tribute. I met Jane last year through BBTCafe on Yahoo and always looked forward to her Monday posts. It was tough reading that last one.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear this. It's awful to get news like that so unexpectedly.
ReplyDeleteHow very sad to hear this. Condolences to her family and those friends who knew her.
ReplyDeleteA very fitting tribute post Lee.

ReplyDeleteI suppose it will happen...I never thought about such a thing.
Cheers

Well done, Lee.
ReplyDeleteI went to Jane's blog very early Monday morning, but the obituary wasn't posted at that time. I first learned here from you just now. I knew Jane the same as you, and I'm saddened to learn of her passing. She was a good blog friend.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about her until Old Kitty of ten lives & second chances wrote about her. You've also given her a wonderful tribute.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I'm sure you were shocked. I didn't know Jane, but she sounds like a lovely lady. I'm sorry you lost your friend, and my condolences go to her friends and family.
ReplyDeleteOh Lee, so sorry to hear of this and so sorry for your loss and for the great loss to the blogosphere. What a lovely tribute!

Thanks for posting about this! Jane's blog was one of the earliest blogs I found when I started blogging over a year ago. She always left such kind and thoughtful comments on my blog. She will be missed.
ReplyDeleteVery sad. My heartfelt sympathy to Jane's husband and family.
ReplyDeleteThat is the last thing I expected reading your post. Had she made it known how sick she really was? I suppose, that, although her life has come to a close, her legacy and writings live on. And, you can even use her influence in your own. Condolences to her family

I was not a follower of Jane's but I heard about her passing from several people. It makes me ponder my own mortality. If chronological age were taken into consideration, I would be the best bet to go before Jane since I'm 81 but there is often a divine plan that we can't account for. I am extremely happy that I have so many bloggy friends and I love them every day as if we lived next door.
ReplyDeleteI send you my sympathy for losing a good friend and my condolences to her husband and family.

ReplyDeleteVery well said Lee. I never had the chance to read her blog but the kind words I am reading from so many people says a lot. I beleive she will be missed by more than she could know.
ReplyDeleteunfortunately I didn't have an honour to follow her blog, but I do remember her face from the blogoshpere and I know she was loved by her fellow bloggers and that she will be missed :(
ReplyDeleteAgain thanks to all for your visits. Jane was only 62 and did not really say much about any illness and it was indeed a surprise for me and many of you I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteLee
So sad. Jane touched a whole lot of lives!

Thank you so much for this wonderful tribute to my mom Jane. She not only was my mother, but my best friend and my inspiration. She was passionate about her writing and blogging. She would have been honored to know so many people followed her and cared for her. She would be so touched by these lovely tributes to her memory and all the kind words. It brings me great comfort to know that she was able to reach so many people through her writing and her blog. My mom was the writer in the family so I am sorry that I cannot phrase my comments as eloquently as she would have! Thank you again.
ReplyDeleteHeather Sutton-Lewis
Thank you Heather. There's a whole lot of us who will miss your Mom's blog.
