This Is Me--2024 A to Z Theme

My A to Z Themes in the past have covered a range of topics and for 2024 the theme is a personal retrospective that I call "I Coulda Been" which is in reference to my job and career arc over my lifetime. I'll be looking at all sorts of occupations that I have done or could have done. Maybe you've done some of these too!

Something to Look Forward to

Description: []

Coming Tomorrow!

Thanksgiving is now history and we've gotten through another weekend.  Now I'm looking forward to the next big thing--and I don't mean Christmas.

What I'm talking about is my blog post for tomorrow.  Coming up I have another combination post for the Insecure Writer's Support Group and Battle of the Bands.  As has become my custom when I'm participating in more than one blog event, I've tied together my BOTB song pick with the theme of my #IWSG post.  Hope you'll enjoy what I have in store.   I'm anxious to free this song from my brain as it has been lingering in my head for many days now.

I think it's a pretty great tune--not exactly a Christmas song, but certainly a timely song.  I was singing it yesterday as my wife and I were out driving and she liked it a lot.  And I can think of at least one blogger who will appreciate the song as well as one of the artists I'll be featuring.  In the end though I hope this song will stir souls and have meaning for most of you.  Considering the times in which we are living, I can't help but think the subject matter will touch all of you in some way.

And that's just tomorrow.  There are more things coming your way in the days, weeks, and months to come.  Let's hope they're all or mostly all good things.

What's Ahead?

We can count out those easy open beer cans since pop tops have long been the norm.  And who uses a "church key" anymore anyway?  No, I'm not talking technological advances here.  And I'm not talking Christmas, New Year's, or any other special event day though all of those are certainly coming and would be appropriate to talk about.  I'm just biding my Monday post day time to provide a preview of what's coming up at Tossing It Out.

My BOTB results post will appear on Monday December 7th along with the December Question of the Month.   This month Michael at A Life Examined has posed what I think is kind of a tough one, but I'll come up with some kind of answer, you can be assured.

There will be another Battle of the Bands post on December 15th which will be similar to my first December BOTB post.  Then things might get a little sketchy between that post and the January 1st BOTB post--you know, Christmas holidays and all.

But then along with my January 15th Battle of the Bands post I'll be participating in the Backstage Blogathon hosted by Movies Silently and Sister Celluloid.  You might have noticed the badge for this at the top of my sidebar.  Once again the post of that day will be a combined post with a common theme.

In February I'll be dwelling on thoughts of love and other unrelated things.  That's still a ways off, but I'm thinking on ideas already.

Speaking of the not so distant future, something will be coming our way in April that I'm sure you can guess.  It has something to do with the alphabet.   Most of you probably know what I'm talking about, but if you scroll down my side bar you can get some hints.   It's something that I've been doing every April for the past few years along with many other bloggers.   We'll speak more of that later.

No matter how troubled the times are that we live in, we just keep moving forward as though things will get better.  I for one believe they will.

Do you sometimes feel unsettled about where our world is going?    What are some of the things that are troubling you these days?   Are you planning to participate in any of the events I've mentioned?

  1. Wonderful post Lee. It's great to have something to look forward to.
I too enjoy the two you mentioned. Me having something to look forward to with a possible trip to Spain in Feb. with a view to moving there.

I've two posts coming after the IWSG post this week and then nothing again until January. Going to take a break this year.

  3. Hi, Lee!

I'm pretty sure you are referring to me, Lee, and I thank you in advance for working Disco Tex into one of your battles! :)

It looks like you have your blogging schedule in place for half the coming year and a lot of interesting posts in the pipeline. I look forward to them.

    Have a great week, Lee!

    1. Shady, sorry to disappoint again. I guess I need to find some way to work Disco Tex into some future Battle.

  4. I definitely feel unsettled by the way the world is going in certain aspects. I'd probably attract a bunch of trolls if I ever make a blog post about a certain issue/trend which has been angering me more and more!

I'm planning some music-related posts for December, plus some film-related posts. I may also move some posts out of my drafts folder if the calendar allows.

    1. Carrie-Anne, there are a few opinions that I'd like to express that I tend to stay away from so I avoid excessive conflict with others. I've got a lot of posts in draft that I need to use eventually--they keep piling up because I keep thinking of new ideas.

  5. You are smart to plan your posts. Except for IWSG, I wing it!

    1. Liza, I try to do all my posts at least a week ahead, but in a sense I'm still winging them. I plan so I don't have to think about them during my travel breaks.

  6. We have to believe in a brighter tomorrow and live to love today. That's what I say. Nice to see having some structure here Arlee with your blogging plans. I am definitely doing IWSG of course. Maybe I'll try Battle of the Bands in January. Right now I am happily easing back into the blogging life. Great to be back.

    1. Sheena-kay, it would be great to see what you could add to Battle of the Bands. If you enjoy music I'm sure you'd enjoy this blogging event.

  7. Karen, I guess keep on blogging as you have been doing. At least being there is better than being invisible.

  8. I'm looking forward to the backstage blogathon. It will be interesting.

I have been stewing on A to Z. I plan to debut more posts on my science education blog. I created 19 posts and they get twice the visitors as my regular blog. Anyway, I thought I would use the opportunity to putting more science activities online, from A to Z of course. ;-)

  9. Now I can't wait to hear what you have up your vinyl sleeve! For some reason Freebird comes to mind... I'll have to peek in on the Backstage Blogathon - sounds interesting. I've been thinking about the A-Z challenge since the last one!
I applaud your optimism and hope you're right about things getting better for our country and the world in general.

    1. Diedre, I try to be optimistic as much as I can, but there's always something trying to drag me down a bit.

No, not "Freebird"--actually pretty far from it.

  11. Unsettled? I am downright scared of the things as they are right now. When ISIS is beheading, our president talks about climate change. I will get involved this election, even if is passing out flyers.
Sorry, can't think about further 'athons right now.

    1. Susan K, I might even get involved in the election depending on who's running.

  12. Lee, our world is always troubled and it's so hard to not be sucked into it. The unsettled affair of things around us is prophecy being fulfilled and there's little I can do about that, expect to have my spiritual life in order, which I do, and face each day the best I can. The thing that bothers me at the moment, as you know, is my husband is unemployed and naturally that has me just a bit on edge. I'm trusting God to show us the way, but I want to say, "Show us already!" But, that wouldn't be respectful and give my worries an advantage over me. *sigh* Oh well, God knows my heart. He knows our needs and in His perfect time make things known to us. I hope to participate in future events as time permits. So, I'm unsure about the April challenge, but I sure would like to do it. Anywho, all I can do is take things one day at a time and see where it leads me. Thanks for stopping in. I'll see you tomorrow for BOTB!

    1. Cathy, you hit upon the gist of my thoughts in this post. What's coming has been foretold and there is not much to worry about for those who have things right with God.

  13. I don't like where things are going in the world. But I also do my best to remain distanced from the news and debates. I get what I want on line. I actually have a lot of things troubling me but nothing I want to put out here in public. It's taken a huge toll on my health though.

  14. Dang... Is it already time to start thinking about April? Every year I promise myself I'll plan ahead, start drafting long before, etc., etc., and... it never happens. So maybe this year, with your kind reminder here, I'll manage to get a jump start on it :)

The world... Yes, there's ugliness. And hatred, and fear, and way too much violence. There's lack of compassion, and an Us vs. Them mentality (that really, really bothers me). But, like you, I believe there is also goodness and beauty and progress (no, not of the technological kind, though that, too, may be a good thing), and many, many things to be grateful for. It feels like we're at a key moment, when things might go one way or the other, which is why it's so important for positive people to speak out. To try, at least, to spread a contagion of empathy and compassion and—why not?—of humor, too.

Kudos to you, Lee, for doing just that :)

    Looking forward to tomorrow's battle!

  15. Well Arlee, I admire your planning spirit. I keep a lot of stuff in my head. Just as well my memory is phenomenal or I'd be in strife. I have to combine my IWSG with a guest post this week. So much happening in December, then a bit of a break I hope.

    1. Denise, actually I wish I would plan my entire life far better than I do. I keep a lot in my head as well, but a lot of it gets kind of lost up there.

  16. The song "Imagine" came into my head but I know I am wrong. Of course I will be to the April challenge and I have to look at the backstage one now. When I was little, we had the cold war, Vietnam was going on and nuclear war was ever present. The world can be a scary place but it is also a place of great things. One can't let this get to you or you will crumble

  17. The direction this world is heading is unsettling and I worry about what kind of world we will be living in 20 years from now. All I know to do is just to keep praying. I'm interested to see what song you picked this time. And you will most likely find me participating in the big April event :)
