This Is Me--2024 A to Z Theme

My A to Z Themes in the past have covered a range of topics and for 2024 the theme is a personal retrospective that I call "I Coulda Been" which is in reference to my job and career arc over my lifetime. I'll be looking at all sorts of occupations that I have done or could have done. Maybe you've done some of these too!

Predict Your Future Now & Rockin' Chair Results

Predict
Predict (Photo credit: teamstickergiant)

Okay, I said it so I'm standing by it even if I have to sit in my rocking chair to make it there.  Like I've said before, I'm going to live to 156 years old.   I know it sounds silly now, but if I make it then I guess I'll have the last laugh.  If I don't, well, I guess I can say I've made an effort.  Maybe not such a good effort, but I kept my positive mindset on the future.

Considering it's already the end of February I'd say that future is coming on pretty fast.   Next thing you know it will be April and if you know about me then you know what April means.  I won't even mention it here cause I probably say it enough as it is.  I'll just ask you:  Are you ready for April?   And if you really don't know what I'm talking about then you can peruse my sidebar a bit and I'm sure you'll figure it all out somewhere along the way.

And since I've directed your attention to my sidebar, if you are not a "Bird Watcher" yet, please click on the "Join This Site" button and become a member.  I'm trying to reach 2000 members before Alex J Cavanaugh does and I'm sure I can easily get there first.  After all he needs something like 13 more as of this writing and he's going to have a hard time getting to 2000 before me.  Even if he is offering cool prizes and stuff in his Epic Giveaway.  I ain't giving away anything and I only need to get 2 or 3 more followers to make it to 2000 if my addition serves me right.  Well maybe it's a few more than 2 or 3, but no big deal.  Don't follow Alex to get a chance on winning really neat prizes, but follow me instead.  Or you can follow both of us I guess.   But me first.  And, Alex, I deserve 10 points for saying this.  Right?  And I don't know if this mention is creative or not, but you can decide that.

By the way, since I'm talking about numbers (seems like I talk about numbers a lot), how old do you predict you'll live to be?

Battle of the Bands Results:
Rockin' Chair

My Battle of the Bands post of last Saturday featured the song "Rockin" Chair" dedicated to all the old coots that didn't appreciate my 80's music showdown at the beginning of the month.   This latest contest received more approval than the previous one.   And it was a close one!

Hoagy Carmichael's version received 7 votes including my own.  It was very close for me and I did like Eric Clapton's version quite a bit.  However, that jazz violin solo in Hoagie's version cinched it for me.  I love that era of music from the 20's and 30's.

Eric Clapton edged out a win with 8 votes.

Next Battle of the Bands will be another special Saturday edition on March 1st.  Be there or be square.

Do you enjoy the Battle of the Bands posts?   Is there any particular music era that you would prefer to see matched?   Do you like "older music"?

  1. Lee, if you're going to live until 156 how many are going to be around to see the great event? I won't predict how long I will be around , I'm thankful for each day at the moment. Pleased Eric Clapton got the edge.
    Enjoy your week-end.

  2. Only 321 more to go!
Yes, that scores you an extra ten points.
Eric Clapton won? Glad I voted!

  3. My husband and I have already put in our request to live until we're 105.

I think I missed that battle of the bands.

  4. So one more gets added to your count! :D
I am curious to know about how you arrived at number 156!! :)

  5. I don't want to enter into the predicting business, but I will say that this past BOTB was one of your better ones IMO. Nice close race, with two really different, but good songs.

  6. Hi Lee, I returned the follow! :) Thank you again for the follow, your comment and the tip about word verification. My favorite music? Swing and lounge. :) Anything along the lines of "The girl from Ipanema." That beat, that style. It's just cool daddio. ;)

  7. Sorry I can't help boost your number and beat Alex to the 2,000 mark, but I'm already a follower. I might consider cloning in the future and if I do, I'll come back with a new identity.

As to what age I'll reach, I'm looking at 95. That's when all of my kin seem to have had enough and toss in the towel. Hope you reach your desired age and do it in good health.

See you in April. I'm a minion this year.

  8. Yvonne--Hopefully I won't be the only one left on Earth. I guess I might still have some descendants still living.

Alex -- Oh, 321? Are you sure? Well I'll still catch up with you.

L.Diane -- 105 with reasonable health would do fine. Next BOTB is next Saturday!

Shilpa -- 156 is a pretty arbitrary number isn't it. I came up with it about 25 years ago and I have no idea why I chose that number. Thank you for getting be closer to 2000 followers!

Faraway -- Glad my BOTB met your approval, but I still liked the "Gonna Get Close to You" match up.

Dancing-- "Girl from Ipanema" is a great song choice. I like that style of music as well.

C.Lee-- Good health is essential for me to want to reach an old age. If I can't get around somewhat well then I'd rather cash in my chips. Preferably I'll be eating chips and salsa.

  9. I don't know how long I plan to live. I do know that I will live until I don't live anymore. But I doubt that it will be all the way to 156.

  10. I thought I was a Birdwatcher already, turns out I'm now #1583. Better late than never. Liven for as long as you can Arlee, I'm rooting for you. I think only we can create our best future. The future itself comes either way.

  11. Hmmm...
    LEE, you kinda fooled me.

I had a feeling you were going to vote for Clapton. The violin threw a monkey wrench into the works though. I did figure that if you voted against Clapton and his guitar, it would be the butler and his fiddle what done it.

    >>... how old do you predict you'll live to be?

I'm currently 54 years old. And considering the fact that I died when I was about 43, I'll take a stab in the dark and predict that I will live to be... 43. (To be truthful, I "died" about 18 years ago, when I moved to Phoenix, Airheadzona - just like everybody else who moves here immediately does - but I still managed to keep breathing until I was 43. So, I guess it depends on what the meaning of the word "live" is.)

  12. Considering my family has a bunch of health issues, they live pretty long.

So far I haven't really known any of the BOTB posts you've done...but I'm pretty particular about what music I listen to. I'm kinda stuck in 60s-80s, with a heavy emphasis on the Grateful Dead.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Paula -- 156 is probably a pretty extreme prediction but as medical knowledge advances who knows.

Sheena-kay -- Thanks for the follow. I've found out on blogs before that I thought I was following that I really wasn't. If you're still rooting for me when I'm 156 that will mean you'll be fairly old yourself!

StMc -- Well, I didn't mean for you to get all philosophical on me. Live? Walking, breathing, eating, and going to the bathroom on my own with minimal pain or discomfort--that sort of thing. So from what you say and the way you say it, does that me you've died and gone to hell? Really now, it's not that bad. Better to be in Phoenix for eternity than hell. I mean, I've been to Phoenix and there are some good qualities to it. I would rather live in Phoenix than a lot of other places.

JoJo -- Guess I'm going to have to find a Grateful Dead song for one of my battles. But then I'll probably know who you'll vote for.

  14. First, what a close race with this BOTB. That is awesome. I love a close one!!!!

As for the age thing.... With the woman in my family the question isn't how old you'll be when you die, BUT it's how old are you when you lose your mind. Usually that is about ten years before they die. We come from hardy stock and the body just keeps right on going long after the mind has left the building. So, using all of my grandparents as yardsticks, I predict that I will lose my mind at 75 and die at 85. Those last ten years are going to be a riot. I won't have a clue what I'm doing, but I am sure I will be hilarious. (Again, using the generations before me to gauge the hilarity factor. We are comedians when we no longer care what we say or who hears it.)

Yeah, but for one reason and one reason only: in Hell they confiscate your sunglasses. (Or at least that's what I've heard.)

  17. I like all music. April is going to be a blast!

  18. Robin-- Well, if you're still blogging when you get to that age then your blog will be a real hoot I guess. Maybe more of us need to be more hilarious throughout our lives.

StMc -- There you go. But somehow I've always pictured hell as a rather dark place where you won't need sunglasses. I don't want to find out though.

Cathy -- Of course I'll get to 2000 before Alex. I've already gotten something like 4 new followers today. I'm on a massive roll.

Steve -- I'm hoping everyone will have a good April.

  19. Hi Lee, am also wondering why 156. Maybe because you're 52 right now and this is the first third of yr life? You want another two thirds?
I have no clue of what age I'll be when I die. Who knows... 85?

  20. I do enjoy the BOTB posts, though I'm not familiar with some of the songs. Good way to get to know more music though. I'm an 80's/90's fan, but I like some recent stuff too.

Oh man, April is coming way too soon! I keep changing topic ideas and stressing out over when I'll get all the posts finished. Gotta learn to relax and enjoy it. I'm such a newbie!

Good luck against Alex, that's gonna be a tough race to win but your lack of incentives should help you close the gap (who needs a gimmick anyway?) :D

    ReplyDelete
  21. Good luck, I am sure you'll win! When I was younger I thought I will live until I am 30...it is approaching I better finish my bucket list.

  22. >>...Like I've said before, I'm going to live to 156 years old.

Something to do with Jesus and supernatural fishing maybe?

Wasn't it 156 fish Jesus helped His Apostles to catch?

  23. Susan S -- If I'm going by the theory of thirds then I'll live a good ways past 156.

Chris -- A to Z experience doesn't have a lot to do with how one takes on the Challenge. I keep changing my topics too. I'm starting to get my posts together now I think.

Poke -- Before I turned 30 they used to say not to trust anyone over 30 and that maybe those over 30 should die. I never really subscribed to all that and especially not now that 30 is for me a distant memory.

  24. StMc -- I don't recall that fish number. If the 156 has any significance for me then it probably came from my subconscious and our subconscious mind controls all that we say, do, or think with our conscious mind. 156? I have no idea in my conscious recollection, but the figure could have been the product of a mind in an altered state.

  25. Nope. It was 153 - "missed it by that much". (Another one of my great theories shot all to hell.)

  26. When I read your reply to my comment on this post, my first thought was oh no, it appears that I have caused some offence. I felt some irritation from you in the past over my comment regarding your ‘Get Close to You’ BOTB post. For that very reason I made an extra effort to leave a sincere, respectful, and positive comment on your current BOTB post ‘Rocking Chair’. You BTW made it very easy for me to do that, because the song you selected and the versions you presented were ones I truly enjoyed. I also, thought I was making an effort to again be positive in my comment above. BUT your reply to me here, and the comments you have left at my blog on the last three things I have posted, leave me at a loss for what more to say.
Yesterday, when I first read you reply to my comment I immediately decided to ignore it. I suffer greatly from insomnia, and most nights don’t sleep more than four hours at a stretch (that probably explains some of my dumb blonde tricks). Last night as I lay awake, I waffled back and forth on an least three different occasions over either ignoring your reply, or submitting another comment. As you can see, by the light of day, I feel the need to say something. (Not really surprised, are you?)
I do see a need to apologize for being insensitive and callous in my comment regarding the ‘Get Close to You’ BOTB. I know that we all have different tastes in music and even when it comes to the same song, there are some versions that are less our liking than others (I might be wrong, but this seems to be the basic reason for a BOTB). I thought I was simply voicing my opinion, but I do know that there are times when I may take things too far, and it seems evident that this was one of them. I have stated more than once at my own blog that I don’t consider myself to be any particular expert on music, but I do know what I like and I also realize that my likes are pretty eclectic and sometimes bizarre.
All of that said, I hope you can forgive my inept attempt to express my feelings. I do promise to be more careful in the future. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people who have no problem telling people when I think they are wrong, I know that often causes conflict, BUT I also have no problem admitting when I am wrong and again this is one of them. I truly had no intention to cause you any negative feelings. It was simply a matter of different tastes that I obviously expressed too strongly.

  27. One more apology - I don't know why, but when I compose a reply in 'Word' and then copy and paste it into the comment box if sometimes does not include the proper spacing. I always check. This time it looked good, but after it published, I see there are no spaces between paragraphs, and that of course, makes it very hard to read. Just chalk it up to dealing with a dumb blonde AGAIN!

  28. I always promised my husband I'd throw him a 100 year old birthday party, so I guess I have to live to be at least 97. However, if he gets a 100 year old birthday party, I think it's only fair he throws a party for me too, which means we're both going to live to be over 100 by my count.

Gee, I can't imagine what you must be talking about regarding April, unless you're referring to pool season starting here in Arizona. Other than that, I haven't got a clue, and no, I'm not ready, but I still keep plugging along. Don't want to be wearing a bunch of baggy clothes when swimsuit season arrives :)

  31. How did you arrive at 156 Lee? Initially I thought 100. Not to be a downer, but at 100, our bodies are a bit broken down. Hopefully technology and medicine makes aging even more graceful. On second thought, maybe 88 as 8's are lucky numbers in Chinese. Good Luck with that thing you do in April!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Faraway -- No apologies are needed. I've sent you an email so as not to explain here. I hope you received the email.

MJ -- Yeah, that April thing. Whatever could it be?

Julie --If everyone started a second Blogger account and followed me then my numbers would really zoom upward.

Kelly -- The follower thing is mostly for outward appearances. I do like to see a big number there, but readers are what really counts.

Buck -- So maybe I should set my sights on 888? 88 is might young. You should join us in April.
